Humans are cutting down the red mangrove trees in which the pygmy three toed sloth lives in. Because they live in such a small area, this makes it hard for the sloths to survive. Mangrove threes are home as well as food for the pygmy three toed sloth...

Poaching- Even though humans don't live on Isla Escudo de Veruas, there are still visitors or tourists such as fishermen, lobster divers and local people. The are known to hunt the Pygmy three toed sloth which decreases their population even more.
